Typically defined as someone with a willingness to invest in very high-end audio equipment who also obsesses over every aspect of audio system set-up and optimization. Often mis-characterized as an older male who sits between two speakers in the "sweet spot" listening to music by himself. The modern audiophile has evolved to include anyone with a desktop PC system, 5.1 home theater, two-channel gaming system or other set-up, who is willing to invest in better sound quality. It's no longer about the pursuit of sonic perfection or obsessing over every detail, but rather a desire to get the most out of every listening experience, within your means.
